where it all started

I started my career as a functional nutrition RD helping women correct hormone and fertility imbalances and prepare their bodies to conceive and carry a baby to term. These young and healthy women were facing diagnoses like PCOS, endometriosis, and the dreaded “unexplained fertility.” I knew that nutrition, stress, toxins, and a woman’s environment had to play a part in reproductive health, so I put on my research helmet and got to work. It was an honor to help many couples conceive who were told they couldn’t.

Next step:
Motherhood

Throughout my first pregnancy, I couldn’t believe how much misinformation there was about a nourishing and supportive diet. I knew that pregnancy was the time to focus more, not less, on nutrition. When I left the hospital post-birth, first baby in arms, I was given zero guidelines on healing and replenishing my body. I wondered why women were being shipped off into motherhood with nothing but giant mesh undies and a 6 week postpartum checkup.

hello, night sweats.

My sheets didn’t stand a chance. Layer on the exhaustion, brain fog, and 0-to-60 mood swings and I was in shock. Despite being an expert in nutrition and hormones, I didn’t know how to take care of my physical needs.

Enter: the “forgotten mom”.

It’s a role we fill without even realizing it. Fueled by our mothering instincts and society’s subtle message that we no longer matter, we pour all of our energy into our babies. Showers are a relic of the past, so who’s got the time to heal and replenish their bodies?

Everyone says that
this is motherhood.

I knew that what I was feeling was common, but not normal. So I taught myself how to take care of my unique postpartum body. And it worked, fast. When I had my second baby, I used the same principles to prepare for birth and beyond, helping me avoid most postpartum plight. My body had what it needed to feel good in early motherhood.

I created Motherwell to teach other moms simple, life-changing principles to to rebalance their hormones, replenish their bodies, and feel better.

Motherwell is a place

science or woo-woo:

Science nerd with a hint of woo

02

yoga or hiit:

Move your body to feel good.

03

Perfection vs. laid back:

I’m a big fan of “good enough.”

04

low carb? keto? paleo? Vegan?

Just a balanced diet that suits a mother’s needs.

05

the worst nutrition advice I’ve heard:

Use intermittent fasting to lose weight. NOPE.

06

my nutrition mantra

When in doubt, eat more.

I feel ya. but why nutrition?

The nutrients in our food make up our hormones, hair and everything in between. That means we feel and function better when we give our bodies what they need.

Motherwell caters specifically to a mother’s body.

Most diet trends and nutrition books say nothing about motherhood, because that’s not who they were created for. Pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood and perimenopause are challenging seasons that create specific needs. Motherwell is a space for mothers.

 Let’s take care of you.
